Greater New York Hospital Association
Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), founded in 1904, is a one-of-a-kind trade association comprising nearly 300 hospitals and continuing care facilities, both voluntary and public, in the metropolitan New York area and throughout the State, as well as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Over the years, with the help of our members, we have redefined what a trade association is and should be, and have created a dynamic center for discussion and collective advocacy.

SFY 2010-11 Budget

On January 19, New York Governor David Paterson released his Executive Budget proposal for the 2010–11 State fiscal year, which begins on April 1, 2010. The proposal is designed to close an estimated $7.4 billion budget deficit for next year.

As expected, the budget contains major cuts and taxes for health care providers: approximately $244.6 million in savings and new revenues from hospitals; $140.2 million from nursing homes; and $73.9 million from home and personal care providers (State-share only).

Haiti Relief Efforts

Following the devastating January 12 earthquake, hundreds of doctors and nurses flew to Haiti to begin providing essential medical services. Among the medical responders are a number of clinicians from the New York area. To support the relief efforts being undertaken by our member hospitals and their staffs, GNYHA has created a Haiti Response Resource Center, which includes information about the official U.S. response in Haiti and how to volunteer resources.

GNYHA Supports Member HIT Adoption

Health information technology (HIT) offers health care providers opportunities to improve the quality of care, enhance patient safety, and eliminate inefficiencies in order to reduce the cost of care.

In response to recent HIT policy proposals and funding opportunities, GNYHA, together with its member-staffed HIT Steering Committee, has developed a comprehensive educational program to help our members maximize the return on their HIT investments.
