Health Care Terms (April 2008) was prepared by GNYHA to assist professionals in the health care field, as well as those outside the field, in understanding commonly used health care terms and acronyms. The compendium is designed to complement other resource guides that focus more narrowly on managed care terminology or provide broader, more general definitions. The compendium defines terms in the areas of health finance, legal and regulatory affairs, managed care, graduate medical education, and integrated delivery systems. In addition, the compendium includes descriptions of the authority and function of a variety of regulatory and advisory bodies at the Federal level and in New York, descriptions of the major provisions of legislation with significant implications for the delivery of acute and long term care, and a number of of health care and Internet terms.
