New York State monitors resident work hours and working conditions under Part 405 of the State Hospital Code. IPRO is the third-party contractor the New York State Department of Health (DOH) uses to monitor hospital compliance with Part 405. As of April 2010, IPRO uses a triennial cycle of on-site reviews with a desk review during other years. The Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) also monitors work hours through the duty hours standards included within its Common Program Requirements. GNYHA works with its members to ensure they are aware of and understand all resident work hour policies and requirements.
