Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) can be prevented by inserting and maintaining urinary catheters aseptically, according to evidence-based guidelines. Additionally, it is imperative to insert urinary catheters only when appropriately indicated, and to remove them as soon as the circumstances indicating placement are no longer applicable.
