GNYHA continues to work on a grassroots advocacy campaign requesting that Congress include funding for additional Medicare-supported graduate medical education (GME) residency positions in infrastructure legislation. Our campaign urges Congress to authorize additional Federal funding for GME and to pass the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2021 (S. 834/H.R. 2256), which would add 14,000 Medicare-supported residency positions in teaching hospitals across the country.
The Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2021 has strong bipartisan, bicameral support. To date, the bill has 119 cosponsors in the House and 11 in the Senate. But we need more cosponsors for the legislation.
Through GNYHA’s campaign, you can quickly and easily email or tweet your members of Congress. Please express your support for GME by texting DOCSHORTAGE to 52886, or by clicking here. GNYHA and the GNYHA/1199SEIU Healthcare Education Project are promoting it across social media. We encourage you to share our grassroots platform with others.
