Mayoral, City Council Primaries Fast Approaching

April 28, 2021

The New York City political class is focused on the June 22 Democratic primaries for Mayor and City Council—the first that will let voters rank candidates by order of preference. The general election will take place on November 2.

While polls show that a plurality or majority of voters are undecided about who the next mayor should be, entrepreneur Andrew Yang has consistently led. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer have maintained second and third place. Mayor Bill de Blasio is term-limited and will leave office on December 31.

About two-thirds of the current City Council is term-limited. GNYHA has been meeting with Council members to discuss New York City hospitals’ extraordinary response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the vaccination effort, and other hospital-related issues.
