GNYHA participated in Consolidated Edison’s (Con Ed) Corporate Coastal Storm Plan tabletop exercise on April 19. Stakeholders discussed the challenges of a coastal storm affecting the New York City area. Hospital stakeholders highlighted the need for prioritized road clearings and greater hospital surge capacity during such a storm.
Con Ed detailed recent improvement efforts, including raising equipment above flood levels, increasing capacity for mutual aid, and enhancing the electrical grid to minimize and contain outages.
GNYHA has a permanent seat at the NYC Emergency Management Emergency Operations Center, which enables us to respond to hospital needs during emergencies by coordinating with government agencies and other infrastructure organizations, including Con Ed.
