Legislative leaders are reviewing Governor Kathy Hochul’s Executive budget, which includes Medicaid rate relief, safety net hospital funding, capital funding, and major investments in the health care workforce.
GNYHA is advocating for further increases in Medicaid rates, which are well below cost, and more support for safety net hospitals. We also oppose changes to the Excess Medical Malpractice Pool law and the surprise billing law that would harm providers struggling to recover from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. GNYHA President Kenneth E. Raske will detail our priorities at the February 8 Legislative Health Budget Hearing, which begins at 9:30 a.m.
We are working with our partners to ensure that the Assembly and Senate build on the Executive budget with their one-house proposals, which we expect to be released in mid-March.
The GNYHA–1199SEIU Healthcare Education Project held a virtual briefing today for legislators. Health care workers, hospital leaders, and GNYHA and 1199SEIU staff urged around 100 members of the Legislature and their staff to support our joint priorities.
GNYHA and HANYS will hold a virtual joint State budget briefing for our member hospitals on February 10 from 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. Click here to register.
