Since the inception of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), GNYHA has maintained active member workgroups on health information privacy and security, and supports member hospitals as they navigate HIPAA and its evolution. GNYHA provides regulatory analysis and guidance, and strongly advocates for modernization and harmonization of the various privacy laws and regulations that often dictate conflicting actions on the part of hospitals.
